Terrorism and Morality Essay -- September 11 Terrorism Essays

Fear based oppression and Morality   â In the wake of the Sept. 11 assaults of 2001 and the U.S. military activity in Afghanistan, moral inquiries have emerged. This exposition will think about such inquiries.  Many Church pioneers and driving masterminds in the United States have firmly safeguarded the U.S. utilization of military power in the wake of Sept. 11. However outside the States the discussion is less about simply war and progressively about monetary and social imbalances. The first and superseding disparity Americans face right now is this one: The genuine killers, the planners of these killings, are alive and resolved to slaughter once more, while the homicide casualties have been burglarized of their lives, their prospects, their expectations, dreams and families. In excess of 5,000 blameless individuals kicked the bucket on account of radical executioners in a solitary day in September(CNN), and others keep on dieing through what has all the earmarks of being bioterrorism(Bio).  Americans see this all the more plainly, and feel it all the more distinctly, than outcasts since Americans are straightforwardly connected as the objective of the savagery. Pariahs are not, so their point of view is typically extraordinary.  I feel that tokens of the social and monetary disparities on the planet fill a significant need. In any case, no administration can keep its authenticity on the off chance that it neglects to guard its kin. The shameful acts on the planet can never be utilized to contextualize or pardon mass homicide. What's more, the United States is in no way, shape or form the main wellspring of the worldâ's social and monetary imbalances. America bears heavier good commitments for its activities in view of its thriving and force, however in the Muslim nations and all through the Third World, rulers have reliably abused their own kin, with or without Western inclusion. Sin isnâ't a... ...ht to an existence unafraid. The incongruity, obviously, is that a huge number of Arab-Americans are really Christians whose families regularly went to the United States to get away from monetary segregation and strict terrorizing in the Muslim nations of the Middle East.  I accept that in spite of our blemishes and sins, Americans are a decent people - and furthermore an extraordinary people. We get an opportunity in the United States to show the world that Christians, Jews, Muslims and individuals of different beliefs and no confidence can live respectively in shared regard and harmony. Regardless of whether Americans today have the character to achieve that objective is not yet clear. It must be demonstrated again in each new age.  SOURCES CITED:  Bioterrorism Articles. http://pubs.ama-assn.org/bioterr.html  CNN Online News. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/remembrance/  Â

Free sample - Business-Technology Alignment. translation missing

Business-Technology Alignment. Business-Technology AlignmentBusiness-innovation arrangement is a prestigious issue that keeps on plagueing different organizations. Frequently, the separation results into some terrible outcomes. In any case, in spite of the seriousness of the issue among different companies, Tom Uva appears not to be compromised by the issue. He expresses that business-innovation arrangement isn't advanced science. Uva has felt free to make a structure that permits IT staff members to concentrate on key business needs. Uva and his staff members are driven by the saying â€Å"There is Nowhere to Hide† â€Å"You convey or You do Not.† In the article â€Å"Absolute Alignment: How One CIO Remains in Lock-Step with the Business,† Uva surveys different issues that are identified with business-innovation arrangement. At first, he underscores on the significance of gathering as groups in an enterprise to talk about different issues influencing the partnership, lay key designs for the association, and survey progress. Uva’s group meets week by week to examine the status of the considerable number of tasks that have an IT part. The gathering involves different heads from the CIO’s five gatherings that make the Sensis Corporate Technology Solutions (CTS) (Wailgum 1). These gatherings incorporate Business Solutions that is worried about applications and information the board; organize tasks group; customer administrations, which is liable for managing all the IT issues of the Sensis client network; data security; and the Run as Business that is liable for such issues as seller the board, the IT groupâ⠂¬â„¢s money related administration, and preparing programs. The week by week gatherings update the staff members on their next exercises; they guarantee that each staff is centered around the set needs. In this way, gatherings ought not be exercises that are attempted every year and overlooked; they ought to be effectively overseen. Uva’ gatherings accentuate on the essentialness of consistent gatherings as groups and heads of groups for the achievement of IT associations (Wailgum 1). The groups embrace different needs. In a solitary month, a team’s needs may run from five to ten needs. Moreover, needs vary as far as size and multifaceted nature; regularly, needs can be a whole IT anticipate or a constituent of the bigger IT anticipate. The teams’ first concern is on the most proficient method to organize their needs from what has not been done to what has been finished. In spite of the fact that Uva’s gatherings are like the various notice gatherings that are held inside some other CIO’s office; the gatherings have their own unmistakable qualities. The gatherings are increasingly successful, characterized, and vital contrasted with other CIO gatherings. This emerges in light of the fact that all the gatherings present in the gatherings comprehend that the Sensis Group and all CTS accomplices have closed down the entirety of their needs and are focused on the achievement of these needs. Furthermore, they comprehend that all the Sensis w orkers survey their triumphs or disappointments on a month to month premise, and their compensation is attached to the exhibition of the whole CTS portfolio. These components are basic in advancing boosting confidence and duty of the IT arrangement staff members to accomplish the needs of the organization. Business and IT pioneers are required to set up an IT working arrangement that depends on the company’s objectives and long haul procedures (Wailgum 2). The key arrangement would then be able to be separated into yearly, quarterly, and month to month IT needs. These needs would then be able to be followed and checked dispassionately since they are obvious along the company’s lines of business. Sensis has received this methodology. Uva remarks that the methodology isn't as confused as seen. Be that as it may, it is a powerful methodology for patching customary business-IT separates. The methodology depends on straightforwardness and honesty, obligation and meticulousness, and pacing and prioritization. The current sign of Uva’s task and needs approach doesn't have any conventional name. The methodology has advanced throughout the years to its current structure. There was a noteworthy outer master contribution to the advancement of the methodology; previous CIO’s contributed enormously to the creation and improvement of the methodology (Wailgum 2). It includes mixing of sound undertaking the executives techniques and the truth in IT. Uva’s most prominent impact is E.P. Rogers, The Mony Group CIO. Rogers interconnected day by day exercises to the strategic activities, and the key commitments. The company’s key yearly arrangement is associated with the IT expectations every month (Wailgum 3). He utilizes administration, venture the executives, and arrangement to do his business activities. The organization has a Four-Leveled Plan with various varieties and one arrangement conforms to the next. The Three-Year Sensis Strategy-This is key arrangement that ranges on 3-4 years. For example, Application of Consolidation Plan. This includes recognizable proof, alteration, or disposal of applications.â The official every year returns to this system (Wailgum 3). Twelve-Month Operating Plan-This solidification plan is broken into littler yearly targets. For example, Review five applications. Yearly, this objective will be investigated whether the goal was met. Quarterly Targets-The yearly working arrangement is separated into quarters and targets are set in each quarter. Month to month Priorities-These are created from the Quarterly Targets. For example, in the main month of Quarter 1, the particulars for the assessment measures. This causes the shops to manage the IT limit (Wailgum 3).â Each representative has a duplicate of the key and working arrangement that is refreshed to satisfy the need of customers. On the off chance that they have a customer that will arrange their items in 2012, they change their tasks and methodology to meet that arrangement so they can have the option to fulfill with the need. Simultaneously, the Chief People Officer, and SVP at Sensis, Peggy Dudarchik, investigates the CTS division to know which business ventures need assets. All needs are audited, and for Uva, 99 percent done equivalents fixed. Month to month progress is distributed and is made accessible to each representative in the organization. This suggests everybody effectively gets to data about the exhibition of each group. This empowers all the representatives to check whether they met the set destinations during that period. The different business administrators can see the importance and ramifications of the IT framework. Uva can disapprove of a minute ago undertakings. This encourages him to abstain from applying a lot of weight on the limit of his association. VP of Operations at Sensis, Greg Farnham, says that, he comprehends when his solicitation is prepared (Wailgum 4). He knows the limit of assembling, requests of the IT managers, how the assets are apportioned, or more all the needs of the association (Wailgum 4). Such circumstances can be comprehended through reprioritizing the requests of each undertaking. Uva utilizes key tasks, constrained IT assets, and prioritization of undertakings to meet authoritative straightforwardness. This straightforwardness is reflected by the responsibility in this association. Seventy five percent of the compensation of workers is attached to their month to month execution (Wailgum 4). The achievement of the IT office is estimated with a proportion. The quantity of finished ventures is separated by the all out number of activities that each group was alloted for that month. Toward the start of consistently, Uva and his initiative group set three evaluations of IT execution: Grade 1-Threshold or an essential passing evaluation Evaluation 2-Target or a presentation that is appraised as better than expected Evaluation 3-Above Target that indicates astounding work In the 2010 monetary year, the consequences of Q1, Q2, Q3, were 81, 86 and 91. This shows a checked improvement in execution. The general score of the CTS group remained at 90.4 %. All in all, Uva has equipped his business towards progress utilizing the Four-Leveled Plan, organizing, IT straightforwardness, and responsibility. He invests 33% of his energy in operational issues, and the lay on vital issues (Wailgum 4). Work Cited Wailgum, Thomas. Supreme Alignment: How one CIO Remains in Lock-Step with the Business. The Cycle Of Communication By Michael Argyle - 1562 Words

This assignment will start by discussing two well-known theories known as ‘the cycle of communication’ by Michael Argyle and ‘the stages of communication’ by Bruce Tuckman. Firstly, it will look at Michael Argyle’s ‘The cycle of communication’. The ‘Communication cycle’ is a frequently used theory of communication. It was originally established by Charles Berners in 1965. In 1967, a man named Michael Argyle claimed that human communication is essentially a two-way process that involves people sending, and responding to each other’s verbal and non-verbal messages. It was then improved in 1972 by Argyle’s. The model of the ‘communication cycle’ makes it apparent that to ensure effective communication, it has to be a two-way process. As well as transmitting messages to others in a precise way, health care professions must be able to react to both verbal and non-verbal feedback. Therefore, operational communication has to involve determination from both sides in the communication cycle. The ‘communication cycle’ has six stages. Stage one is when an idea occurs. This means that the sender has to think and assess the circumstances that they are placed in before they start to communicate. The sender transmitting the message needs to think about what and how they are trying to say the message. For example, in a doctor’s surgery, an idea will occur as the practitioner thinks about how he/she will communicate with the current patient. This allows him to communicate moreShow MoreRelatedUnit 1 - P2 Argyle Tuckmans Theories of Communication778 Words   |  4 PagesThis assignment will discuss two well known theories of effective communication. Graduation Speech My Writing - 1056 Words

Over the course of the semester, my writing has improved tremendously. I used to be very scared of writing and hated the idea of sharing my writing or thoughts with anybody. I used to never go to teachers, friends, or my parents for help because I was embarrassed of my writing and did not want them to read it. This semester I worked harder to get past this and gain more confidence in my writing. Now I have developed a solid pre-writing process that has helped me develop more organized essays and become less scared of writing. Last semester, and the beginning of this semester, I hated that I had to take a writing class. I did not like writing in high school, and I did my best to do as little as possible and still get by. The last research and formal writing I did before last semester was my sophomore year writing class. It was a joke. After that I took AP Literature, and my senior year I was a centerspread editor for the school newspaper. In AP Lit we did not have to write out of clas s essays. When we had to write, we did a 50 minute in class essay to help us prepare for the AP exam. Therefore, I learned how to write fast, but I did not learn how to prewrite, do research, or incorporate quotes well. For the longest time, I displayed an interest in the educative arts. It has always been a matter of how I would be able to succeed in my goal that would put the complete cherry on top. It has not been too much of a struggle to work long, laborious hours and also pay for my education, while learning and absorbing as much knowledge as I could. This is true because I have displayed qualities such as responsibility and perseverance that consume my personality. However, these qualities are still present. I have adapted myself to these conditions to allow me to keep working at my goal without giving up. However, if I had a scholarship to appease my needs, I would definitely be able to focus on my education even more than I already do. The one thing that would be on my mind would be learning, which in the end is the most important thing. I have harvested a determination for this program that may be quite unbelievable. To teach and educate others is nothing less of a dream, in my view. To be honored and awarded with an aid to help me in my endeavors would not only motivate me even more, but I would make the most of it rather than treat it less than what it is. In all honesty, it is not a fact that may be denied that those who are partaking in the educative system are not paid extremely well. However, I chose this profession because I have a passion that is unimaginable. It is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time and deserve the aid to have an opportunity to make that vision come true. A scholarship should always be awarded to someone who is deserving of it. I have paved my way for my own edification and to have support to make it easier on myself would be not only a chance to focus on other important aspects of my work, but will allow my future to be clear of debt and worry. Education requires complete focus. To be educated is already an opportunity in itself, and to educate is quite a noble profession, and I would appreciate to be a part of that. In summation, I believe that I am a qualifying candidate for the scholarship from the College of Education because I display qualities such as passion and motivation that will allow me to work with the utmost concentration that will bring me face to face with success. How to cite Scholarship Essay, Essay examples Scholarship Essay Free Essays It is important to take education seriously. As a student, I feel that education is the most valuable and precious thing in life. It is also the one thing you can assure that nobody can take away from you. We will write a custom essay sample on Scholarship Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now It is important not to let anything become an obstacle to your education. I feel that it is important to continue my own education by attending a college where I can take my studies seriously, and receive the highest degree of education possible. Since the day I laid eyes on Northeastern University, I dreamed of attending the Business School there. Fortunately for me, I was admitted to become a member of Northeastern’s class of 2008. I will attend Northeastern University beginning Spring of 2003, with a major in Accounting. I plan to study abroad in numerous countries during my college experience, in order to expand my knowledge of different cultures, traditions and languages. I also plan to spend a semester in a foreign country participating in a Co-operative program. I believe that it is important to experience business in a foreign country, because I am a prospective business major myself, and international relations are becoming a large part of American business. Prior to college graduation, I hope to work in a major business-oriented city, such as New York or Boston, where I can put my skills to use. I have always been fascinated with big cities, because I personally enjoy a fast-paced life. Like many aspiring businesswomen, I someday hope to become the â€Å"head-honcho† of a big company. For now, however, I will take things slow, and worry about my college career. How will my college education help me to contribute to my community? Well, I believe that communication is currently the leading cause of problems within a community. In my opinion, the college experience as a whole will improve my communication skills, helping me to become more active within my own community. Also, for many areas, lack of communication is due to a language barrier within the community. Areas such as Brentwood consist of families from over 50 different countries, and with the differences between languages, it is hard for everybody to be heard. By traveling abroad and studying foreign languages, I feel that I will soon be able to contribute to improving foreign communication within my community, providing a sense of unity throughout. As you can see, I have a busy future ahead of me. I believe in the theory, â€Å"Live like there is no tomorrow,† and I certainly plan to do so. Prior to High School graduation, I hope to continue ith my success by attending my first-choice college, Northeastern University, where I will pursue a five-year Co-operative education. In order to do so, I will need financial aid, hopefully in the form of scholarships. What better a reward than money to help continue my education? I am ecstatic about learning so many new things, and being able to specialize in the areas that I enjoy most. I am anxious to see what my future holds for me, but as for now, I will keep my goals and aspirations in mind, and hope that all plays out the way I plan. How to cite Scholarship Essay, Essays

Wreck, Wreak, and Other [rek] Words

Wreck, Wreak, and Other [rek] Words Wreck, Wreak, and Other [rek] Words Wreck, Wreak, and Other [rek] Words By Maeve Maddox I saw this in an article about caring for a laptop: If you store your laptop in the vehicle for any period of time, keep in mind that the extreme temperature ranges within the vehicle could wreck havoc with your laptop. Its not the first time Ive seen the word wreck substituted for wreak in the expression wreak havoc. Both words have similar origins, but in modern usage they are pronounced differently and have different meanings. wreak [reek] v. to bring about, inflict, as in wreak havoc, wreak vengeance wreck [reck] v. to cause ruin or damage wreck [reck] n. something that has been ruined The Old English verb wrecan meant to drive, drive out, avenge. Old Norse had a similar word. In Anglo-French these words evolved into a noun, wrec meaning goods cast ashore after a shipwreck, flotsam. The word reckless has a different origin. The Old English word reccan (past tense rohte) meant to care, to trouble about, heed. From it came a noun, rece meaning care. A reckless person doesnt care what happens. The word reckon comes from another OE verb spelled reccan (past tense reahte). This one meant to expound, relate. One still talks about reckoning accounts, or, in a metaphorical sense, the Final Reckoning. I reckon is a dialect expression for I guess, I suppose. Then theres reek. reek [reek] n. a bad smell reek [reek] v. to emit a bad smell The Old English word rec meant smoke from burning material. Reek acquired the sense of stench in the 17th century. So, back to the words that inspired this article: the next time you want to wreak havoc, dont wreck your credibility by misspelling or mispronouncing wreak. Juergen Habermas

Juergen Habermas Best Known For:    A philosopher in the tradition of critical theory and pragmatism. His theory on the concepts of â€Å"communicative rationality† and the â€Å"public sphere.†His work on the concept of modernity.    Birth: Jà ¼rgen Habermas was born June 18, 1929. He is still living. Early Life: Habermas was born in Dusseldorf, Germany and grew up in the postwar era. He was in his early teens during World War II and was profoundly affected by the war. He had served in the Hitler Youth and had been sent to defend the western front during the final months of the war. Following the Nuremberg Trials, Habermas had a political awakening in which he realized the depth of Germany’s moral and political failure. This realization had a lasting impact on his philosophy in which he was strongly against such politically criminal behavior. Education: Habermas studied at the University of Gottingen and the University of Bonn. He earned a doctorate degree in philosophy from the University of Bonn in 1954 with a dissertation written on the conflict between the absolute and history in Schelling’s thought. He then went on to study philosophy and sociology at the Institute for Social Research under critical theorists Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno and is consider a member of the Frankfurt School. Early Career: In 1961, Habermas became a private lecturer in Marburg. The following year he accepted the position of â€Å"extraordinary professor† of philosophy at the University of Heidelberg. That same year, Habermas gained serious public attention in Germany for his first book Structural Transformation and the Public Sphere in which he detailed the social history of the development of the bourgeois public sphere. His political interests subsequently led him to conduct a series of philosophical studies and critical-social analyses that eventually appeared in his books Toward a Rational Society (1970) and Theory and Practice (1973). Career and Retirement: In 1964, Habermas became the chair of philosophy and sociology at the University of Frankfurt am Main. He remained there until 1971 in which he accepted a directorship at the Max Planck Institute in Starnberg. In 1983, Habermas returned to the University of Frankfurt and remained there until he retired in 1994. Throughout his career, Habermas embraced the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, which views contemporary Western society as maintaining a problematic conception of rationality that is destructive in its impulse toward domination. His primary contribution to philosophy, however, is the development of a theory of rationality, a common element seen throughout his work. Habermas believes that the ability to use logic and analysis, or rationality, goes beyond the strategic calculation of how to achieve a certain goal. He stresses the importance of having an â€Å"ideal speech situation† in which people are able to raise moral and political concerns and defend them by rationality alone. This concept of the ideal speech situation was discussed and elaborated on in his 1981 book The Theory of Communicative Action. Habermas has gained a great deal of respect as a teacher and mentor for many theorists in political sociology, social theory, and social philosophy. Since his retirement from teaching he has continued to be an active thinker and writer. He is currently ranked as one of the most influential philosophers in the world and is a prominent figure in Germany as a public intellectual, often commenting on controversial issue of the day in German newspapers. In 2007, Habermas was listed as the 7th most-cited author in the humanities by . Newspaper report on the conditions in the factories and mining areas of Industrial England - Essay Example It is a fighting that has no productive end, in the same way that â€Å"intellectual pride† does not accomplish anything meaningful for its practitioners. Flannery O'Connor provides another exploration of â€Å"intellectual pride.† â€Å"Intellectual pride† relies on egocentric and illogical beliefs of one’s intellect, because it is characterized by the resistance to acknowledging one’s mistakes, strong belief in one’s ability to â€Å"read people,† and assertion of one’s intellectual superiority. â€Å"Intellectual pride† refers to that permanent resistance to admitting one’s mistakes. Mrs. Hopewell believes that she did not make a mistake in hiring the Freemans or in choosing Pointer as a potential boyfriend for Joy. Still, she suffers from Mrs. Freeman’s insistent presence during meals, and Pointer happens to be one of the greatest shams in her world of â€Å"Good Country People.† The grandmother a lso does not want to divulge to her son Bailey that she made a mistake in giving directions. Even at the point of impending death, she resists acknowledging that she indirectly killed her own family, because of her vain attachment to an illusory past. People with â€Å"intellectual pride† also insist that they know how to â€Å"read† people. Mrs. Hopewell thinks she knows who good country people are.

Compare two computers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Compare two computers - Essay Example In addition, the random access memory of HP Pavilion is 4 gigabytes synchronous dynamic while Dell Inspiron random access memory is 6 gigabytes data rate (Lant 1). Consequently, the processing speeds of the two types of laptops differ significantly. Owing to the high processor capacity of Dell Inspiron compared to HP Pavilion, Dell Inspiron has a faster processing speed compared to HP Pavilion that is capable of handling mid-level and low-level software speed comfortably. Similarly, surfing using Dell Inspiron is smoother compared to HP Pavilion application. Another difference between the two types of laptops is depicted by the graphic design appearance. Dell Inspiron has an Intel HD graphic while HP Pavilion carries advanced micro devices. Furthermore, the hard drive size of HP Pavilion is 500 gigabytes while the size of Dell Inspiron is 1000 gigabytes (Lant 2). Hard disk is the hardware device that is responsible of storing data input for the laptops. This implies that Dell Inspiron has an advanced capacity to carry more data compared to HP Pavilion due to a higher hard disk memory. Similarly, the battery life of Dell Inspiron is estimated to last for 4 hours while that of HP Pavilion lasts for 4 hours. Thus, one has to recharge the Dell Inspiron battery more times compared to HP Pavilion due to the shorter battery life of Dell Inspiron compared to that of HP Pavilion battery. Another significant difference between the two types of laptops is the window application. HP Pavilion works under windows 7 pro while Dell Inspiron applies win dows 7 premium (Lant 1). Consequently, the memory support of HP Pavilion is capable of handling physical memory of 192 GB while Dell Inspiron laptop can handle physical memory of 16 GB. Moreover, HP Pavilion has a hard drive crash protection while Dell Inspiron does not have protection against hard

Compare Windows And Linux Operating Systems Computer Science Essay

Compare Windows And Linux Operating Systems Computer Science Essay An Operating system is software that lets the user interface with the computer and also manages number of applications. Most number of PCs has built in Operating system installed. Operating systems created to take control of the operations of applications such as email programs, word processors and web browsers. Straight after the computer is switched on the operating system needs to be loaded into the RAM before any other program can be run. Operating system is automatically loaded into RAM as soon as the PC turns on which is done by the boot strap loader which is stored in the PCs ROM chip. All the Operating systems perform basic functions such as: Managing resources These applications coordinate all of the PCs resources which include keyboard, printer, monitor, mouse, storage devices and memory. Operating system manages to perform a file structure on the computers hard drive where the data can be saved or retrieved. When a particular data is saved, the Operating system saves the data and attaches a name to the data and remembers where the data was saved for any future use. File system is the way the Operating systems organizes the information into files. Almost all the Operating systems use hierarchical file system which organizes the files into folders under a tree structure which makes it easy for the user to get the data. Providing a user interface -.Users interact with programs and hardware trough user interface. Most of the Operating systems provide the GUI which is graphic user interface where graphic objects or icons are used to represent commonly used features. Running applications -These are the programs which load and run applications such as spread sheets and word processors. Almost all the operating systems support multitasking where more than one application can be run at the same time. When a user is requesting the application to be open the operating system locates the program and loads it into the RAM. If more programs are loaded the operating system must allocate the computer resources. Support for built in utility programs -The operating system uses the utility program to identify problems, repair damaged files, locate lost files and back up data. This makes the easy for the user as the operating system does the hard work by solving the problem where the user just has to wait for the result. Control to the computer hardware -The operating system is in the middle of the programs and the BIOS. Bios controls the hardware, but all programs that need hardware resources has to go through the operating system. Operating system can access the hardware through BIOS. Task 2 B M1 Report that compares the features and functions of two different operating systems by reviewing the features and functions and present a comparison of the two summarising their respective strengths and weaknesses in context. I am going to compare windows and Linux operating systems. Introduction Windows -It is an operating system software and GUI produced by Microsoft. Microsoft released their first windows operating system in 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing popularity of the graphical user interfaces. Windows dominated the Personal computers around the world when it came out in the market which overtook MacOS which was launched in 1984. By October 2009 windows had roughly 91% of the market share of the client operating systems for the use on the internet. The latest release client version of windows is windows 7, the latest release server version is Server 2008R2 and the latest release of mobile operating system is windows phone 7. Linux Linux refers to the family of Unix-like PC Operating system using Linux kernel. Linux can be installed in number of different computers and video game consoles, to mainframes and supercomputers. Linux is the top server operating system, accounting for more than 50% of installations and runs on the fastest top 10 supercomputers in the world. Using Linux in desktops has increased in recent years. The name Linux comes from Linux kernel, created in 1991 by Linux Trovalds. Comparison of the two operating systems Out of these two operating systems windows is the most famous OS, whereas Linux is the most famous OS that is free. The two OS compete against each other for user-base in the PC market as well as the server market, which are also used in schools, business offices, intranet and internet servers, homes, government offices, supercomputers, and embedded systems. Windows are top in the personal computer and desktop markets with approximately 90% of the desktop market share, and accounted for about 66% of all servers sold in the year 2007. In the server market share windows received 36.3% and Linux received 12.7%. By November 2007, Linux OS powered 85% of the worlds powerful supercomputers where compared to windows 1.4%. Linux and windows are different in the cost, versatility and stability with each looking to get better in their superficial weak areas. Normally, some major areas of superficial weakness usually cited have included the poor out-of-box usability of the Linux desktop for the mass-market and vulnerability to malware windows. Both are areas of fast development in both sides. Linux is not a complete operating system when you compare it to Windows operating environment. Linux doesnt have built-in GUI interface. Users are free to use the former windows graphic user interface with Linux where each provides a different look and feel. Functions Windows offers much easier user interface called graphic interface unlike Linux, where it only has one GUI for users to choose from. These facts in some cases could make the using of the OS much easier as the user can choose what they are comfortable with. One of the advantages of Linux is that it comes from multiple choices of GUIs so that it can help provide an easy starting ground for either windows or Mac users. Both windows and Linux allow hardware to successfully communicate with the software in similar way. But however the Linux has some compatibility problems which can cause trouble when trying to install hardware drivers. Whereas the being one of the top OS in the world are finding that hardware drivers is a push over. Security Windows are more infective to a virus then Linux as windows is the most attacked OS in the world. And most the viruses arent even compatible with Linux hence making Linux inherently safer. Performance The performance reduces massively in windows simply because windows takes to much power unlike Linux which doesnt use much power to work, which means that there is much more power available to be used for the user of Linux which makes the performance faster. Stability Because of the work all around the world by the millions of users of Linux which have full and free access to the source code where they are trying to make Linux more stable unlike the few 100,000 windows techs with a licence to modify the windows source code. Also the fact that the Linux OS has more consistent fileling system and Linux also dont use much processor power to run which automatically makes the Linux OS a more stable OS. Cost You have to pay for all the Windows operating systems unlike the Linux operating systems which are free and full access. You can also download the Linux software for free unlike the windows operating system where you have to pay. Usability -Windows operating systems are one of the easiest operating system to use because of the lack of things you can do with it along with legal problems. Windows is also more spread operating system then Linux so it has the better hand when it comes to personal computing. Linux is also easy but the users arent confident enough so are not willing to use the free Linux OS. Conclusion- After researching about these two operating systems along with the points that i have made I believe that Linux is the better operating system then windows with better benefit, However as far as the hardware is concerned windows doesnt have the skill to work on the Power PC processors, unlike Linux. Linux would be one of the growing operating systems in the world which would be the main rivals of windows in the future. Here is a Comparison table Linux Windows Price Most of the Linux operating systems are free and lower costing then windows. Windows operating systems can be bought around the price of $50 to $150 per each licence copy. Ease Linux has massively improved in their usability but windows are much easier for new computer users. Microsoft have made lots of changes and have made it much more easier to use the operating system, but it still might not be the easiest software to use but is definitely easier than Linux. Reliability Most of the Linux systems are Especially reliable and can run for moths and years without having to reboot it. Windows has made some fabulous improvements to their Reliability in their last versions of windows but its still not better than Linux. Software Linux does have number of software, utilities and games available but it cant compare to the large amount of software windows has. Because there are more people using windows around the world there are more software, utilities and games available in windows. Software Cost Many of the software, utilities and games are freeware or open source. Most of them are free and some of them cost really less then compared to windows. Windows also has software, utilities and games for free but majority of the programs will cost around $20 to $200. Hardware Linux and hardware manufactures have made great improvements for Linux and will support most hardware devices, whoever there are many different companies that still do not offer drivers for their hardware. Windows has much more support from the hardware manufactures for windows hardware devices because of the large amount of windows users. Security Linux always has been safe and secure but it can also be attacked but when you compare it to windows Linux is much safer. Although windows has made vast improvements to their security but still continues to be venerable to the viruses. Support Linux has large amounts of help online or books around the world to help any user. Same with windows also has large amount of help to their users with books, documentation guides help centre etc. http://www.techquark.com/2009/02/compasion-linux-vs-windows.html Name Linux Windows Creator Linus Torvalds, et al. Hamsters and Guinea Pigs Comparison

Katrina 10/23/12 English 1 honors Mr. Martin. Hamster and guinea pigs ESSAY: Hamsters and guinea pigs are two completely different animals. The most obvious difference is that hamsters are very small; they can fit in the palm of your hand. Guinea pigs are much larger, generally weighs around 3 pounds or so when fully grown. Hamsters are native to Europe and Asia while the guinea pig is native to South America. That's one difference which shows they are not related. Although the two eat approximately the same foods, the guinea pig is much larger and is commonly used as a food animal in the Andes Mountains. The hamster is strictly a pet or laboratory animal. Although they are both rodents and are popular as pets, hamster and guinea pigs have many differences such as there body and their behavior. ‘Guinea pig' is the common name for members of the species Cavia porcellus. They are native to South America in the wild, weigh roughly 700-1200 grams, and usually live for around five ye ars. Guinea pigs are tailless, herbivorous, and live in social colonies in the wild. They are active during the day. The guinea pig is very likely to get into space when space habitats are finally developed. They breed easily, have several litters per year, and mature quickly. A guinea pig gets about 5 times the size of a hamster, and eats more like a rabbit. They are both good pets though. They do look a lot alike, but are completely unrelated. Guinea pigs are a whole different species. Possibly not even rodents, scientists are debating that. Guinea pigs are the larger of the two, they don't have a tail but they have a bump where there tail should have been. Guinea pigs are usually the hardest to train but once trained they will be very attached to you. Guinea pigs like to be kept in pair's or groups.A perfect example of a social animal that enjoys each other’s company and like living outside. A guinea pig is bigger, and has a life span of about 5 to 10 years. Hamsters can ac tually be one of several species from the genus Phodopus (dwarf hamsters), Cricetulus (includes dwarf and normal sized species) or Mesocricetus. The most common pet hamster is Mesocricetus auratus, the Syrian hamster. Size of pet hamsters is usually around 5-15cm. The hamsters have little short hairless tails and prefer to live a solitary lifestyle, only coming together to mate. They are omnivores, mostly eating only seeds and fruits, but may also eat things like insects in the wild. Hamsters can live for around 1. 5 to 2 years and are nocturnal, being most active when it is dark. Hamsters are generally nocturnal which means that they will sleep in the night, but you can train them not too. Hamsters aren't as clean as guinea pigs but they can be taught to use a litter box. Hamsters must be kept alone because of the fact that they are very territorial. Hamsters are usually solitary with the exception of dwarfs who can live happily in groups, they have a lifespan from 1. years to 3 yea rs, but some can live longer. There are also different breeds of hamster, ranging from tiny Robo, Chinese & Russian dwarf hamster to bigger Syrian ones. These have small tails. Rats are about 3/4 or even larger than hamsters with long tails. Hamsters bite if they smell food on you. By owning both animals : hamsters and guinea pigs it is safe to say ,guinea pigs are harder to keep clean (as long as you don't put 2 males in a cage with a female nearby), they are â€Å"sweeter† and seem more stable.Guinea pigs are more easily played with , and when they run on the floor you can find them way easier than hamsters! Other than them both being vegetarians and furry they couldn't be much more different. I hope for the sake of any animal that you find out the difference before attempting to keep one. Pets provide us with so much more than companionship. Although there are responsibilities with pet ownership, the benefits greatly outweigh the work. Pets give us benefits not always read ily available from our human companions and that's unconditional love and acceptance. Our pets are always there for us and they are great listeners! A pet never judges us and they continue to love us in spite of our flaws and mistakes. That simple fact can be a stress reducer. One thing I have come into generalization with is no matter how small or big the animal is or how great their differences are. We should assume responsibility for them. We should do our best to nurture, care and love them. That is our responsibility as humans.

British Colonization Of The Americas - 869 Words

British colonization of the Americas began in 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia. It reached its peak when colonies has established throughout the America. The British ignored america in favor of subduing and occupying Ireland, which is a promising colony closer to their homeland. In 1558, the half-century reign of Elizabeth 1 began, England’s interest to the other side of the Atlantic grew. Elizabeth maneuvered through the difficulties of being a female monarch by refusing to marry, having no kids, and maintaining a reputation for chastity. However, for the next paragraph, I will initiate on how the British slowly colonized the Americas and how the representation of some of the women was very important back in this century. First of all, the British which was run by Elizabeth 1 in the 1500s established her country’s control of the seas and access to the New World’s wealth. Sir Walter Ralegh, who is one of Elizabeth’s â€Å"favorite† men has granted domini on over the large, undefined American territory north of the Spanish lands that Ralegh names Virginia to honor not the Virgin Mary but the Virgin Queen. Even though Elizabeth did not get married she has a â€Å"favorite† men which she trusted him and sent him to the America. Top 3 Shylock Quotes and Speeches

Shylock is one of the most memorable characters from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice – arguably, one of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters ever. We bring you the top three Shylock quotes and speeches that gave him an enduring presence throughout literary history. 1. â€Å"It Will Feed my Revenge!† To bait fish withal: if it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million; laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies; and whats his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Christian, what is his humility? Revenge. If a Christian wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by Christian example? Why, revenge.
